Dustin’s connection to log homes began long before he ever ran a business. Growing up alongside his father, Dave Hoffman, a renowned log home expert who traveled the world consulting, troubleshooting, and teaching others the art of log home construction, Dustin spent his weekends and summers learning the trade from the ground up. Whether it was renovating a cabin, rebuilding a structure, or working on one of his father’s many passion projects, work and craftsmanship were a way of life in the Hoffman household. His mother, Mitzi Hoffman, was equally dedicated, managing every facet of the family’s office operations with tireless commitment and warmth that set the tone for how the business would treat its customers.

An Unconventional Path to Purpose

After high school, Dustin attended a U.S. service academy where he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering. That foundation launched him into over a decade of work in the maritime industry, where he served in engineering roles aboard tugboats, container ships, car carriers, and drill ships — traveling to destinations around the world. He later transitioned into a project management role at a shipyard on the West Coast, sharpening his leadership and problem-solving skills in one of the most demanding professional environments imaginable.

Despite a successful career, Dustin and his wife Laurie found themselves at a crossroads. The demands of high-pressure work had stretched their family thin, and they recognized the need for a reset. In a bold and deliberate move, they sold nearly everything, purchased a travel trailer, and spent six months crisscrossing the United States before choosing to put down roots in the mountains of North Carolina.

Building Something of Their Own

It was in North Carolina that the next chapter truly began. Dustin reconnected with his father’s business in Pennsylvania, which had long served log homeowners with expert maintenance and restoration services, and saw an opportunity. He developed a comprehensive business plan to bring those same services to the Southeast. His father made the decision to sell his interest in the Pennsylvania business to his partner, and together the family joined forces with Dustin and Laurie to launch an entirely new venture. Log & Timber Solutions was born.

Today, Laurie oversees the company’s finances and payroll, keeping the business running smoothly behind the scenes, while Dave’s irreplaceable depth of knowledge continues to inform every project the team takes on. Together, the Hoffmans have built a company that feels less like a contractor and more like a trusted neighbor, one with thousands of successful projects under its belt.
